If you take part in the research project, or use the Guula Buuyal app, some extra information applies — we explain that below.

Guula Buuyal ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website https://www.guulabuuyal.com (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal information, consistent with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).


1. Information we collect
 

Information you give us. When you contact us through the Website — for example, our contact form — we collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address, organisation or community (if you choose to share it), and your message.

Usage data. When you visit the Website, we may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, the pages you view, and the dates and times of your visits.


2. How we use your information
 

We use the information we collect to:

  • respond to your enquiries and provide support;

  • operate, maintain, and improve the Website;

  • understand how the Website is used so we can make it better; and

  • meet our legal obligations.
     

3. Cookies and similar technologies
 

We use cookies and similar technologies to help the Website work and to understand how it is used. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or to tell you when one is being sent. If you turn cookies off, some parts of the Website may not work properly.
 

4. Sharing and disclosure
 

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:

  • service providers who help us run the Website (for example, hosting or analytics providers), who are only permitted to use it to provide those services;

  • government agencies, law enforcement, or others where we are required or authorised by law; and

  • another party in connection with a sale, merger, or transfer of our operations, subject to this Policy.


5. The Guula Buuyal app and research data
 

Guula Buuyal Kidneys was created through a research project, Digital nutrition model of care to improve chronic kidney disease management in Northern Australia. If you take part in that research, or use the Guula Buuyal app:

  • You hold your own data. Your individual data governance, ownership, and sovereignty stay with you.

  • Research data collected through the project is held by The University of Queensland (UQ), stored securely in UQ's Research Data Management system, and kept for at least five years in line with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. Research data is held in non-identifiable form.

  • The app and its intellectual property are owned by Sophus Nutrition (Health Management Pty Ltd).

  • Taking part in the research is voluntary, and what you consent to is set out separately in the project's Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form, approved by UQ's Human Research Ethics process. That consent process governs research data — not this Website Policy.
     

6. Indigenous Data Sovereignty
 

We recognise the right of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, communities, and individuals to govern the collection, ownership, and use of data about them. We are committed to handling community and personal data in a way that respects Indigenous Data Sovereignty and the principles of Indigenous data governance, and to working with our community partners on how data is collected, stored, used, and shared.
 

7. How we protect your information
 

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including secure storage and restricted access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
 

8. Your rights
 

You can ask us to access or correct the personal information we hold about you. Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) you may also make a privacy complaint. Contact us first (details below) and we will work to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
 

9. Children
 

The Website and app are intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us their information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
 

10. Overseas disclosure
 

Some of our service providers may store or process data outside Australia. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.
 

11. Changes to this Policy
 

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and change the effective date above.
